the best thing I've ever done!

I have always LOVED elephants and what they represent.  Strength and wisdom, of course, but also their way of gracefully moving and capturing the attention of all those around.  While making a bucket list many years ago, I ignorantly put, "Ride an Elephant," as one of the top things I wanted to do in my lifetime. This was before I knew about the brutal and sad lives working elephants are subjected to.  According to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, (EJS) an elephant's spine is not designed to withstand a significant amount of weight, and the abuse (crushing) they go through in order to obey orders involves beating, stabbing and chaining them up. These highly intelligent creatures  know what is being done to them.  It is important that tourist know the impact of their decision to use these animals  for entertainment. I took riding an elephant off my bucket list and found an alternative that I'm am sure, was more amazing and memorable than riding could have ever been.  I spent two days with elephants that had been rescued from a unethical, harsh working life.  The EJS has over 50 elephants in 8 different camps.  I got to feed, bathe, and play with over 20 of them! It is hands down the best thing I have ever done in my life. I planned on coming home and creating this amazing, long, travel vlog where I would document my few days at the EJS in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  Is that what I have here? Absolutely, not.  I underestimated how difficult it would be to live in the moment and capture it at the same time.  Above is my mediocre attempt.  It is however still a great recap of fun I had those two days.  I hope you enjoy!

THAILAND, unpacked

THAILAND has always been my dream trip. I can remember googling, "most beautiful places in the world," and "where can you interact with elephants," Thailand was a repeated result. I knew this was one place I had to visit in my lifetime. Going never actually seemed like an option though because, HOW?! I was always intimidated by the distance, cost and my busy work and school schedule.  As mentioned in my last post, Mexico ignited my wanderlust   yet again, and after that trip I knew I had to start seeing the world sooner than later.  Within days of returning, I put a deposit on a 12 day trip through Thailand. After five months of planning, worrying, and of course excitement, I left North America for the first time and explored Bangkok, Koh Samui, Khao Sok, Krabi, the Phi Phi Islands and Chiang Mai, yes all in 12 days!

Bangkok was big and busy and reminded me of New York City.  We visited the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. I enjoyed learning about Buddhism and  Thai culture from our great tour guide.   We travelled south to Koh Samui for a few days and although it was raining and cloudy, it was still easy to find

MEXICO is where it all started.  It has always been a dream of mine to travel and see as much as of the world as I could possibly see.  For a long time, I let excuses hold me back.  I was either too busy, too broke, or no one wanted to go with me.  For my 25th birthday, I finally decided to make it happen and I took a trip to Cabo.  The next year, I travelled to Cancun for a solo trip.  Both times were amazing expierences and I just felt so blessed to be able to see another part of the world that was so beautiful.  From that point, I vowed that I would make traveling a priority and decided to make major moves to be able to do so more freely.  I took my first big trip last month to THAILAND that will have its own post and I am currently gearing up to travel to CUBA in a few weeks!  It is only the beginning and I cannot wait to show you all what I have in store! Stay tuned!
